After an emotional and romantic eight weeks, She Would Never Know (or Sunbae, Don’t Put on That Lipstick) came to an end on March 9. The show followed the romance between Yoon Song-ah (Won Jin ah) and Chae Hyun-seung (Rowoon) and had loads of cute and sweet moments. From their fake relationship to the unrequited love to their confessions, the couple went through a lot to get their happy ending. Here is our recap of what happened.

What we liked:
The family relationships: the show was obviously focused on Chae Hyun-seung and Yoon Song-ah’s relationship in all its ups and downs. But another dominating factor was the family relationships. Whether it was Hyun-seung and his noonas, Ha Yoon-kyung as Chae Yeon-seung and Wang Bit-na as Chae Ji-seung or Lee Joo-bin as Lee Hyo-joo and Lee Kyu-han as Lee Jae-woon or Song-ah and her mother Lee Ji Hyun as Oh Wol Sun. Families can have as much drama as romantic relationships but it was just so heartwarming so see how they all were there for each other when they needed it the most. It was especially sweet to see Hyun-seung’s interactions with his niece, Park So Yi as Kang Ha Eun. She really was a standout in all her scenes especially when she finds out her parents are getting divorced.
Chae Yeon-seung and Lee Jae Shin’s character growth: Hyun-seung’s sisters both had their own storylines with Ji-seung falling in love with Lee Ja-woon. But Yeon-sung’s storyline and growth was the most interesting. At the beginning of the show, she seems to only dedicate her life to her husband and child without any room for herself but by the end of the show we see her discover her own self-worth. She stands up for herself and even starts a new career. Another character who had growth was Lee Hyun Wook as Lee Jae Shin. Romantic K-dramas rarely have terrible villains but Jae Shin was extremely unlikeable at the beginning. It was just impossible to sympathize with him. But as we learnt more about his story and his painful past, it became much easier to sympathize. At the end he learns to stand on his own feet and mends his relationship with Ja-woon which was a beautiful moment.
The office dynamics: We loved the relationship between the Klar team. Whether they were working together on a crisis or going out for team dinners, those scenes were so much fun to watch. It was also amazing to see how they stood up for Song-ah when her relationship with Jaeshin was revealed. They were all the funniest when they discovered that Song-ah and Hyun-seung were dating and keeping it a very bad secret. Also this might sound a bit boring but we loved that they actually showed them working. A lot of office K-dramas, especially ones focused on romance, do not always show a lot of actual office dynamics. Even though it wasn’t the focus, it was cool to see the behind the scenes of a makeup company and how much work is required.
The romance: Obviously this was the main thing we liked from a drama series which was mainly about a romance. Watching Hyun-seung and Song-ah slow burn into a relationship was the best to see. From Hyun-seung’s confession to Song-ah slowly discovering her feelings for him, their relationship didn’t disappoint. We also loved seeing Rowoon playing a more mature character which he totally pulled off. I’m sure many people will see him as Haru from Extraordinary You but we think he did a brilliant job. His and Won Jin-ah’s chemistry was perfect. We also have to give a special shout out to the surprise couple of Ji-seung and Ja-Woon. They were the perfect foil to the lead couple with their relatively drama free relationship which was actually quite funny at times.
What we didn’t like:
Their breakup: We understand the writers needed to add a little drama into the storyline just before the end but this episode 14-15 breakups need to stop. It was also kind of unnecessary because she literally returns home after a year. So basically they were in a long-distance relationship for longer than they were broken up. It was obviously needed to build the tension and ensure the makeup was satisfactory for everyone watching. But seeing Hyun-seung and Song-ah’s pain and sadness in episode 15 was just too heartbreaking.
