7 Korean Films To Look Forward To In The Last Half Of 2021

We have made it through the halfway mark of 2021 and there have definitely been some amazing Korean movies released during the first half of the year.  What should we expect for the remainder of 2021?  Let’s take a look at some upcoming movies that will make you look forward to the days ahead.

1. Dream

Dream is a sport comedy drama directed by Lee Byeong Heon and starring Park Seo Joon, IU and Lee Hyun Woo.  It is a film about a football player who receives disciplinary provision after an accident and is given the challenge to coach the national soccer team of homeless people to challenge the Homeless World Cup.  The film is set to be released in 2021.

2. Emergency Declaration

Emergency Declaration is South Korea’s first disaster-action film directed by Han Jae Rim and starring Song Kang Ho, Jeong Do Yeong and Lee Byung Hun. The film is about an aviation disaster in which an emergency unconditional landing was declared as the aircraft faces a disaster before reaching its destination.  Production of this movie is well over 680 million and will definitely give audiences the feeling of being actually situated in this distress situation.  The film will have its first screening in the out of competition section of 74th Cannes Film Festival held July 6-17.  It is expected to be released in theatres in 2021.

3. The Miracle

The Miracle is a romantic film directed by Lee Jang Hoon and starring Park Jung Min, Lee Sung Min and Im Yoon Ah.  The film is based on a true story of a family in the 1980s who live in a roadless area in North Gyeongsang province.  It is the story about a math prodigy who works with his family and villagers to build a privately owned, one of a kind simple train station.  It is expected to release in June 2021.

4. Wonderland

Wonderland is a sci-fi fantasy film written and directed by Kim Tae Yong and starring Bae Suzy, Park Bo Gum, Jung Yu Mi and Choi Woo Shik.  The film is about helping people reunite with those they love through the help of artificial intelligence in a fantasy world called “Wonderland.”  It is expected to release in the later half of 2021 and will be released on Netflix worldwide, except South Korea and China.

5. The Pirates: Goblin Flag

The Pirates: Goblin Flag is a film directed by Kim Jung Hoon and starring Kang Ha Neul, Han Hyo Joo, Lee Kwang Soo and Kwon Sang Woo.  The film is a sequel to The Pirates from 2014 and is the story about pirates searching over the ocean to find the lost treasure of the Goryeo royal family.  The film is expected to release in 2021.

6. Apgujeong Report

Apgujeong Report is a film directed by Lim Jin Soon and starring Ma Dong Seok and Jung Kyoung Ho.  The film is about a man who lived in Apgujeong all his life and works with an excellent plastic surgeon to bring the plastic surgery business into Apgujeong, Gangnam District.  It is expected to be released in 2021.

7. Firemen​

Firemen is a film directed by Kwak Kyung Taek and starring Yoo Jae Myung, Kwak do Won and Joo Won.  The film is based on the 2001 Hongje-dong fire incident, a fire at a two-story residential house that killed six firefighters and seriously injured three.  It is a story that depicts the bravery and sacrifices of firemen.  It is expected to be released in 2021.
